Tube television, video recorder, magnetic tape (loop)
The magnetic tape brushes against the edges of the wall, drags across the wooden floor and back into the video recorder via a reel. Through manual abrasion and external influences such as dust, light and heat, the tape is strained and the information is slowly worn away.
The TV shows the profile of a head, abstracted and alienated by the effects of a video mixer. The motif becomes more and more unrecognizable, dissolves in the background and reappears.
Over the course of the exhibition, the television screen shows how much the magnetic tape wears out and how quickly the stored information is lost: the loss of data becomes visible through image distortions.
This work deals with wear and tear caused by external influences.
